Claire Visits The Dragon, Part 4

Image
Hi, folks. Had enough to eat yet? Yeah, this is my favorite time of year, the Thanksgiving holiday season here in the United States. It’s all about feasting and… (Well, okay, it’s actually supposed to be about giving thanks, but…) It’s a time when we loosen our belts and eat as much as we possibly can. I love it. Unfortunately, I just joined Weight Watchers. I know. It’s an insane time of year to start that, but my employer is supplementing a group at work in an effort to support a healthy lifestyle, so what are you gonna do? So it’s been feasting for everyone else and famine for me. Oh, well. Thank god for my writing. I’m taking out my frustrations on my characters. Someone’s going to pay for this, and it ain’t gonna be pretty. But that’s another story. This week’s blog wraps up Claire’s visit to the Dragon, part of the back story of Clifford and Claire that will be told in the upcoming Red Wolf Rising, slated for publication in the spring of 2014. But first… What I’...

Top Five Paranormal Countdown - #3

Hey, folks. Here in the northern hemisphere, it's the first day of summer! It's a beautiful day in Charlotte, North Carolina. I hope it's nice where you are.   But, enough chit-chat. I’m in the middle of sharing with you my all-time favorite paranormal fantasy book series. Here’s where we stand so far in the top-five countdown… #5   The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer #4 The Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs And today, coming in at number three, is Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series for Young Adults. The series follows the teenage, half-vampire, Rose Hathaway, as she finishes high school, comes of age as a Guardian , saves the world (at least her corner of it), and gets her sexy soul mate in the end. I’d been a fan of Mead’s adult books for a while, resisting her YA offerings, until the buzz created by this series finally began to get to me and I took the plunge. There was a reason for all the hype. The series has crossed over from ...

Top Five Paranormal Countdown - #4

Hey, folks. I’m sharing with you my all-time favorite paranormal fantasy series, along with what I like and don't like about them and how they, ah, er, influenced my own writing (okay, what I stole from them). I'm counting down, and this week I’m up to number four. I hope you paranormal fans are following this, because I’ve really gotten into it. I hope you’ll comment if you agree or disagree, and if you have some other suggestions. If you aren’t a paranormal fantasy fan, don’t leave yet. You might find something you like. This is the good stuff. Here’s where we stand so far… #5 – The Twilight Saga, by Stephenie Meyer       Now, for number four, let me introduce you to Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson. Mercy is a shape-shifting coyote, raised by werewolves, who is still kicking ass after seven traditional books and one graphic novel. She comes highly recommended, by me. What I liked… The heroine… The tattooed, kick-ass Volkswagon mechan...

Clifford and Claire, Scene 7

Hi, folks. I had a great weekend hiking around the North Carolina mountains, and I’m pleased to say that more of the story of the Red Wolf was revealed to me while on my quest.  Today I have another excerpt from my upcoming novel, Red Wolf Rising .    But f irst, a quick reminder: Today’s the last day to get my books free on Smashwords. Just use the coupon code to the right of the Smashwords link at the bottom of this post.    Now, more of Clifford and Claire…    I’ve only hinted at it in the first two books, but those who’ve read them may have gleaned that Claire (aka, Claws-on-the-Foot), has had a disappointing history with romantic relationships over her thousand-year life. (I think that makes her a perfect match for Clifford Crane.) She’s a bit surprised to find she has an attraction for this man, and it keeps getting in the way of the business she has with him – to turn him into the Red Wolf of Prophecy.    In the last po...

Clifford and Claire, Scene 6

Hi, folks. I have a few more excerpts from my upcoming novel, Red Wolf Rising that I’ll be posting this time and next. I’m also posting this one a little early so I can pack up and head for a little weekend road trip to the mountains for some hiking and idea-gathering. I’ve decided I deserve it, even if no one else does!    First, a quick reminder: Both my books are free in any electronic format you need at Smashwords through April 15th! Just use the coupon code to the right of the Smashwords link at the bottom of this post.    Now, on to today’s post…    I appreciate the little bit of feedback I’ve gotten from these excerpts, but the more the merrier. I take great store in what y’all say, so don’t be shy. I want this to be awesome by the time it hits publication, and y’all can help me out with suggestions.    At this point in the story, Claire is 90% sure she wants to reveal to Clifford that she’s a werewolf, in the hopes th...
